Robert W. Kuypers · Off the clock
Beyond the
résumé.
A little competitive. A lot curious. Occasionally covered in paint.
Food, travel, CrossFit, soccer, a trail worth taking, or a theme park with one more ride. My interests don’t fit neatly into one box. Neither do I.
SIDE QUESTS WELCOME
Culinary curiosity.
Restaurants are part of my professional world, but my interest in food doesn’t clock out. I love the culinary side of life: exploring flavors, discovering something new, and the conversation that happens around a good meal.
Call it research. Delicious, delicious research.

Somewhere new? I’m in.
Travel feeds the part of me that wants to see what’s around the next corner. Different places, different perspectives, and the occasional detour that becomes the best part of the day.
The photo album is my favorite kind of souvenir.

CrossFit & lifting.
I like a challenge I can feel. CrossFit and lifting weights give that competitive streak somewhere useful to go—and give me a reason to keep showing up for myself.
Some hobbies are relaxing. Mine occasionally involve a barbell.
Soccer. Both sides of the sideline.
Playing soccer and watching soccer both make the list. I love the movement, the competition, and the way a match can turn a perfectly calm person into a very animated one.
Apparently one way to enjoy the game wasn’t enough.
One more ride.
I make room for theme parks, a little spectacle, and the kind of fun that doesn’t need a business case. There’s something great about giving yourself permission to be completely in the moment.
Responsible adult. Enthusiastic theme-park kid. These can coexist.
Find the theme-park memories →Paint. Pencil. Poetry.
Painting and drawing are parts of me I haven’t spent enough time with lately. I’d like to pick them back up. Writing poetry belongs here too: another way to get an idea, a feeling, or a wonderfully strange thought out of my head.
No need for every creative thing to become a productivity project. Sometimes making something is the whole point.

Hiking combines a few of my favorite things: movement, exploring, and a good excuse to look up. A change of scenery can do a lot for a busy brain.
Bonus points for a view that makes the uphill part feel like a good decision.

More than one thing.
I’m happy to be the guy who can talk restaurant strategy, get excited about a meal, watch a match, and still want to wander somewhere new.
These are the things that keep life interesting—and the personal side of the person behind this site.
